Does a car air chamber/bubble do the same job?

No. The relative humidity in the air which causes the car to degrade would also be inside the automotive air chamber/bubble causing long term issues. They only way to stop issues happening is to remove/control the moisture in the air by using a desiccant dehumidifier.

Does a breathable dust cover protect my car?

The idea that placing a cover over your classic car will protect it from the elements is a myth that has perpetuated itself throughout the history of car ownership. The fact is that any rust damage that could happen to your car is a result of the atmosphere that it’s stored in. Rust/corrosion damage is caused by a high relative humidity (RH) level. Atmospheric moisture always seeks to reach an equilibrium with the materials within it- the effect of this on materials like metals is that it causes rust.

Can I open the windows of my car stop condensation and mildew on the interior?

Mildew is thin, black, or sometime white, growth produced by mould. This mould is always present in the air and when combined with moisture and certain temperatures cause the perfect environment for growth. Condensation is formed two ways; either the air is cooled to its dew point or if the air becomes so saturated with water vapour, that it cannot hold any more. Opening a window will not stop either of these two things.

What causes my car's leather interior to crack?

If the humidity in the garage where the car is kept is too low (<40% RH), leather will begin to crack and if the RH falls below 30% other issues start to occur, including the rubber parts perishing. To prevent your car deteriorating your garage needs to be regulated between 40-50% RH. Does my garage have to be air tight?

No. Although The better the seal on the building, the more efficient the system, but we don't expect a building to be air tight.

We recently installed a unit into an oak framed purpose built garage which was far from air tight and yet our system holds a constant 40% RH, even with wet oak beams. On smaller spaces, such as single and double garages, we suggest that you allow for 1/2 an air change per hour. We always undertake a site survey where possible to establish the correct system for your garage, which is completely obligation free.
